Enhanced Login Security
Enhanced Login Security serves as an additional line of defense to help further protect your Online Banking Account(s) from unauthorized access. It identifies you as the true "owner" of your account by recognizing not only your user ID and password, but your computer as well. So, if someone tries to access your account from a computer you haven't approved, he/she will not be able to access your information. With Enhanced Login Security, you'll be protected with any computer you're using, whether you're at home or on the go.
All users will be required to enroll in Enhanced Login Security beginning December 2006
Phase One - Setting up your Challenge Questions
If you have already set up your Challenge Questions, please skip to Phase Two.
As part of Enhanced Login Security, you will be asked to do a one time set-up of two challenge questions when you log in to your Online Banking Account. Once you select your two questions, simply type in your answers, verify your e-mail address, and you're done! The answers are not case sensitive. If you would like to change your questions/answers at anytime, simply click on "User Options" then "Challenge Questions Setup".
Your challenge questions will then only be presented to you if you log in from a computer that we don't recognize; or when you click on "forgot your password" at the Online Banking Login screen. Please keep in mind that if you forget your password and call Katahdin Trust Company to reset your password, it will be necessary for you to set-up your challenge questions again at time of login.
Please note:
If you have previously used the Forgotten Password Feature - those questions have been replaced with the new "Challenge Questions" that should be much easier for you to use and remember. Also, the "Forgotten Password Setup" feature under User Options has been renamed "Challenge Question Setup".
Phase Two - Signing up for Enhanced Login Security
To take advantage of this extra security, all you need to do is sign up for Enhanced Login Security. When you log in to your Online Banking Account you will be prompted to add extra security to your account and your computer, or just your account. To enroll, simply click "Add it Now" or you may click "Add it Later" and you will be allowed 3 attempts to login before you must enroll in Enhanced Login Security.
If you select add extra security to your account and computer, we will place a cookie on the hard drive of the computer you are using. A cookie is a small text file or text identifier stored directly on the computer browser that you are using and will not harm your computer. After that, it's business as usual and you will not see anything different when using Online Banking from that computer. The next time you log in, Enhanced Login Security will automatically check that your user ID and password match that computer.
If you select add extra security to your account only, we will enroll you in Enhanced Login Security but not place any cookies on the computer you are using. You would only want to select this option if you are logging in from a computer you do not normally use (a public library, for example). Each time you login hereafter, you will be prompted to answer your challenge questions in order to gain access to your Online Banking Account. Remember, to prevent having to answer the Challenge Questions, you should enroll that computer by going to "User Options", selecting "Enhanced Login Security" and clicking "Submit".

What happens if I use a computer that doesn't have Enhanced Login Security?
With Enhanced Login Security, if you log in from a computer that you have not enrolled (a friend's house, for example) or if someone attempts to access your Online Banking Account, we recognize that your user ID and password do not match that computer. In order to gain access, the two challenge questions which you set up will need to be answered. If you regularly use that computer (work, for example) and want to enroll it in Enhanced Login Security, simply click on "User Options", select "Enhanced Login Security", and click "Continue".
Can I only access my Online Banking account from one computer?
No, you may access your account from any computer you wish. If you regularly use more than one computer to access your account (home and work, for example) and would like to enroll the additional computers that you use, simply click on "User Options", select "Enhanced Login Security", and click "Continue". It's that easy! You may enroll as many computers as you wish.
What if more than one user uses the same computer?
Enhanced Login Security links each individual user to the computer that is enrolled, so if two different users (husband and wife, for example) are logging in using the same computer, each user must enroll that computer.
Enhanced Login Security will:
