Katahdin Trust Company Online Banking Privacy Policy
Protecting the privacy of consumers is important to Katahdin Trust Company and our employees. We want you to understand what information we collect and how we use it. In order to provide our customers with a broad range of financial products and services as effectively and conveniently as possible, we use technology to manage and maintain customer information. The following policy serves as a standard for all Katahdin Trust Company employees for collection, use, retention, and security of nonpublic personal Consumer information.
"Consumer" means an individual who obtains or has obtained a financial product or service from a bank that is to be used primarily for personal, family, or household purposes, or that individual's legal representative.
Information We Collect
We may collect "nonpublic personal information" about you from the following sources:
- Information we receive from you on applications or other forms;
- Information about your transactions with us or others; and
- Information we receive from third parties such as consumer reporting bureaus.
"Nonpublic personal information" is nonpublic information about you that we obtain in connection with providing a financial product or service to you. For example, nonpublic personal information includes information regarding your social security number, account number, account balance, payment history, and deposit account activity.
Information We Disclose
We are permitted under law to disclose nonpublic personal information about you to other third parties in certain circumstances. For example, we may disclose nonpublic personal information about you to third parties to assist us in servicing your loan or account with us, to government entities in response to subpoenas, and to credit bureaus. We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about you to anyone, except as permitted by law.
If you decide to close your account(s) or become an inactive customer, we will continue to adhere to the privacy policies and practices described in this notice.
We may disclose all of the information we collect, as described above, including your name, address, and telephone number, to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements.
Our Security Procedures
We also take steps to safeguard customer information. We maintain policies that require restrictions on access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. Our policies provide that employees who violate these standards are subject to disciplinary measures. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to guard your nonpublic personal information.

Privacy is a Partnership
You, too, can take steps to secure your personal information by following these tips developed in association with the American Bankers Association:
- Never give out your Social Security number, account number, or personal credit information over the phone unless you initiate the call to a number that you know is legitimate.
- Tear up or shred receipts, bank statements and unused credit card offers before throwing them away.
- Keep an eye out for missing mail. If a statement, check or bill is missing, someone may have changed your mailing address.
- Don't mail bills from your own mailbox. Drop them in a post box or at the post office.
- Review your monthly accounts regularly for any unauthorized charges.
- Order copies of your credit report annually, and report and correct mistakes.
- Choose to do business with companies you know are reputable, especially on the Internet.
- Keep your browser's padlock or key icon active when doing business online.
- Don't open e-mail from unknown sources.
- Use virus detection and anti-spyware software, and keep the definitions updated.
- Protect your PINs (don't carry them in your wallet!) and passwords. Use a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters and change them periodically.
- Don't carry your Social Security card in your wallet.
- Report any suspected fraud to us immediately, and notify the fraud divisions of the three major credit bureaus: Trans Union (800) 916-8800, Experian (888) 397-3742 and Equifax (800) 525-6285.
Other Helpful Information:
Katahdin Trust Company will never contact a customer electronically or by phone to obtain customer information; any such communication should be reported to the Bank immediately. Although many consumers appreciate the convenience and customer service of general direct mail, some have a specific preference not to receive such offers of pre-approved financing or credit. To “opt out” of receiving such offers, call (888) 5 OPT OUT. This service is offered jointly by the three credit agencies.
